A Sinner’s Cry

How I wish to wipe my father’s tears,
And hear his laughter roar across the seas.
Whisper sweet music in his ears,
And tell the world of his wonderful deeds.

But heaven is not for the sinner,
And my heart’s not gold.
I am no winner,
In this race to eternity.

Oh dear father, why should you care,
For someone who hurts you like me?
Why would you send your beloved son,
To die for the likes of me?

My father looks on with love in his eyes,
Without saying a word, he opens his arms wide.
With a single breath, all my guilt flies,
And I’m carried away on a blessed tide.
