Our world needs proof. We don’t believe in anything unless we see it or have some proof of it. This also applies to our faith. In matters of our faith, we want to see miracles happening in our lives. We thirst to see God’s supernatural works, as if we are craving to witness God in action. If there is a rumor of an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus bleeding, then a huge population rushes to see it with their own eyes.

We often want to see God work in big ways that we fail to see His big works in small things.

However, this attitude of people has been the same since Jesus’ time. Even then, He had a set of followers who went everywhere He did just to see His miracles. It was as if they were getting to witness a magic show free of cost. We also notice nowadays how people flock to various meetings where they claim to have miracles taking place and God is showing signs of His greatness.

I am not judging anything or anybody here. In fact, many times I have gone before the Blessed Sacrament and prayed to God, “please show me a sign that you exist or give me some symbol to prove that you are there.” Clearly, even I thirst to see miracles and witness them.

Now that I’m aware that I too want to see miracles and I am not some saint who sits back accusing others and telling them that faith without seeing miracles is true faith – the question that I asked God in my prayer time is why have you stopped working miracles now? Like God’s miracles took place almost every day in the Old Testament and then Jesus too worked so many miracles. Then what’s the problem now? We don’t hear of seas being divided or at a wedding the water turning into wine mysteriously.

And I heard God speak to me in my heart, asking me a question – “What exactly is a Miracle?” And my simple reply was anything that would not happen in normal circumstances but takes place to show the Glory of God. And then God said, “That’s right.” And then God asked another question, “Don’t you see this happening around you?” My immediate answer was – “No”. But when I spent some time in silence, reflecting, I realized there are so many miracles happening around us every day at every moment.

Like a young boy who is alone with his girlfriend at home and chooses not to take advantage of the moment – that is a miracle. Or a young couple who, knowing that they are going to have a special child, still decides to give birth and take care of the child – that is a miracle. What about a couple who, after a tiring day of work, remains faithful to their commitment and still goes for their MFC Meeting? What about a youth who, instead of resting at home or roaming around with friends, chooses to attend Mass? Isn’t all of this a miracle?

We often want to see God work in big ways that we fail to see His big works in small things. Look around, and you will see the great works and miracles happening through God’s people. Take some time today to ask yourself, what miracle has God performed through me today? Who knows, you might be God’s big miracle of the day.
